Being a member of the IASJ means entering a worldwide network. All sorts of opportunities are available for IASJ members to help build their own network. After an IASJ Jazz Meeting for instance, a list is made of all the people attending the meeting, which is distributed to all participants. In this way the IASJ provides an ever-growing network on a very personal and practical level. The IASJ network functions on several levels:
IASJ Student Network
The primary goal of the IASJ is student-to-student interaction. This occurs at the IASJ Jazz Meetings, where the central activity is the formation and performances of international combos. On the other hand IASJ Member Schools arrange exchanges of students.
IASJ School Network
This consists of organized formal exchanges between students, teachers and administrators as well as the sharing of educational materials. These exchanges take place at both the Annual and Regional IASJ Jazz Meetings, as well as school-to-school events.
IASJ Teacher Network
Teachers are in contact with and exposed to colleagues from all over the world. This should lead to further explorations of teaching methodologies and ideas for improving jazz education.
IASJ Business Network
The IASJ encourages the sharing of educational ideas and materials. This network links and facilitates communication between vendors and other business contacts, and makes this information available to all levels of the association.
